Caribbean: Yoga, Chocolate, Charity Retreat 2009
Grenada- Caribbean | November 12 to 19, 2009
Neo Moreton, an accomplished Yoga teacher, author of the audio CD “Managing Stress”, is organizing a Yoga, Chocolate, Charity Retreat in Grenada – Caribbean. Read the event description:
In 2008, my dear friend and business partner Karen and I set up a charity called REACH Grenada (www.reachgrenada.org) to help relieve suffering and enhance the well being of Grenada’s children.
Then we met beautiful souls Bernardo and Wendy, owners of Laluna in Grenada (www.laluna.com) who kindly offered to sponsor the venue, food and beverages for one of our literacy training events. It was a delight to be in such a wonderful setting and the event was a big success, well attended by over 15 principals and teachers from schools in rural Grenada. After the event we began to brainstorm ways Laluna and REACH Grenada could work together to provide more for the community.
Getting to know each other, we found we had many things in common including yoga, well-being, community service and a love of food, in particular chocolate (some of the best chocolate in the world is grown in Grenada!) So we decided to create a unique Yoga, Chocolate, Charity Retreat and offer it in November 2009 to participants who can come and experience the luxury of Laluna as well as indulging in yoga, meditation, chocolate making and volunteering to help at a local Home for Abused and Abandoned Children.
Additionally 7% of the proceeds of the retreat will go towards a program designed to to relieve the effects of early childhood trauma by providing na on-going psycho-social counseling program to benefit Grenada’s orphanages.
More detail on the volunteering…at the Home for Abused and Abandoned Children..as well as lacking in basic supplies, many of Grenada’s orphanages have a dull and gloomy appearance and are simply in need of a lick of paint. So, we decided as part of our Yoga, Chocolate, Charity Retreats at Laluna, to give participants the opportunity to volunteer by helping paint colourful wall murals at local orphanages to make the enhance the environment making it brighter and more fun. We felt this was something that was a win for all – participants get to contribute their time and are able to make a tangible difference and the orphanage benefit from lasting change.
And volunteering as a cocoa farmer.. REACH Grenada hopes to continue operating its programs for a long time and we recognized early on the need to create additional funding avenues to secure future projects. The Grenadian cocoa industry was almost obliterated following the hurricanes of 2004 and 2005 and so we are helping the cocoa economy by creating na organic certification process as well as by attracting new international buyers of Grenadian cocoa. Farmers will get to sell organic cocoa at a Premium price and REACH Grenada benefits by receiving a percentage of revenue from the new buyers, which we then channel back to the children of the farming communities. Volunteer opportunities involve travel to rural Grenada to support farmers by getting hands on involved in and learning about cocoa farming.
We hope you can join us to help realize this vision and worthwhile cause. Namaste
Neo
