Chennai – Tamil Nadu | 14 November, 2010
Yogacarya T.K.V. Desikachar, the founder of Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (KYM) will give an intensive one-day Yoga seminar on the Yoga Sudhakaraa, a classical commentary on Yogasutra-s of Patanjali.
The Yogsutra-s of Patanjali is the most fundamental text on Yoga philosophy and also probably the first one dedicated solely to this discipline. 195 pithy statements (sutra-s) of sage Patanjali convey core concepts of Yoga. Hence it is widely regarded as an essential text that every Yoga teacher or Yoga teacher trainer must be familiar with. Numerous are the commentaries and expositions on this text. This shows the great importance attributed to it. Among some of the most intriguing commentaries on this masterpiece is one titled Yogasudhakara (The ambrosia of Yoga) – an 18th century Sanskrit commentary, written by the yogin Sadasivabrahmendra who belonged to the state of Tamil Nadu, India.
Though he remained a silent monk for most of his life, his works of knowledge speak volumes of his genius. His commentary on the Yogasutra-s, through the Yogasudhakara clearly indicates his mastery over yogic concepts, and his eloquence in sharing it with his disciples. This commentary backed by his spiritual vision and supported by quotations from various other yogic texts stands out among the host of other commentaries on Yogasutra-s.
KYM Research department is working on a literary analysis of this beautiful commentary, so that contemporary students of Yoga will have access to this precious teaching. In the meantime the department is keen to share with the general public, the unique value of this commentary, especially as it would apply to contemporary times. This seminar will present some of the key highlights of Sadasiva’s teachings, which are unique and timeless. The faculty of the seminar will include Yogacarya TKV Desikachar, Dr. Kausthub Desikachar and Dr. M Jayaraman.
