About Ananda Ashram
Ananda Ashram in Monroe, New York, is a spiritual retreat and educational center founded on the universal principles of Yoga and Vedánta and dedicated to East-West cultural exchange. It was established in 1964 as the country center of the Yoga Society of New York, Inc., by Shri Brahmananda Sarasvati, then known as Ramamurti S. Mishra, M.D.
The Ashram is open year-round and welcomes individuals of all faiths, origins and cultural backgrounds. Located in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains, just over one hour northwest of New York City, the Ashram is easily accessible by car, bus or train.
About Krishna Das
Krishna Das was initiated into the practice of Bhakti Yoga and Kírtan (devotional chanting) in the early 1970s in India by his Guru, Neem Karoli Baba or Maharaj-ji. He has nurtured this spiritual foundation through numerous pilgrimages to India and by studying meditation practices with masters of various traditions including Buddhism. Sharing his heart through music and chanting is the basis of Krishna Das’ own spiritual work. For many years, he has been offering Kírtan on a regular basis in Yoga Centers around the world and has recorded numerous CDs. More…
About Shri Dharma Mittra
Yogi Sri Dharma Mittra, founder of the Dharma Yoga Center in New York City, has introduced tens of thousands of people to Yoga and is known as the “Teachers’ Teacher.” In 1975 he created the Sun Salutation and Yoga Course poster, and in 1984, the Master Yoga Chart of 908 Postures, as an offering to his beloved Guru and for all Yoga aspirants. Dharma Mittra is the author of the book Asanas: 608 Yoga Poses and is the inspiration for Yoga Journal’s book Yoga, which is dedicated to him. His “Maha Sádhana” DVD set presents an overall view of his many years of work.
