Portugal: Intensive Workshop on Anatomy and Biomechanics in Yoga

CEY – Centro de Estudos de Yoga, in Parede (Cascais) – Portugal, is organizing the second edition of the Intensive Workshop on Anatomy and Biomechanics in Yoga, on 16 and 17 May 2009. The course is taught by Ines Neves, who will address topics like History of Anatomy, bone and joint systems, and anatomy and biomechanics of the spine and limbs, among others.
Contents of Workshop Intensive Anatomy and Biomechanics in Yoga
- History of Anatomy;
- Plans, axis and directions of movement;
- Bone system: concept of bone, bone tissue types, functions of bones, classification of bones;
- Joint System: concept of joint, study of the major constituents of the joints;
- Muscular system: concept of muscles, types of muscles, classification of muscles, types of muscle contractions, tonus, concept of elasticity;
- Study the anatomy and biomechanics of the spine and peripheral joints of the upper limb (shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand) and lower limb (lame-femoral, knee and foot);
- Fascia: concept and functions of the fascia;
- Study of the quadrants of the abdomen;
- Surface anatomy and palpatory anatomy;
- Concepts for the evaluation of the spine.
Brief CV of Inês Neves
– Practiocioner, at private office, of Osteopathy and Physiotherapy in Carcavelos (Portugal) – Osteopraxis;
– Clinical experience with techniques of Osteopathy and the methods of RPG, Sacro-Cranial Therapy and Visceral Manipulation;
– Degree in Physiotherapy completed in 2003, at Escola Superior de Saúde do Alcoitão (Portugal);
– Certificate in Osteopathy (CO) completed in 2008, under the supervision of Escuela de Osteopatia de Madrid (Spain);
– Training in the method of Global Postural Re-education (GPR) in 2004, under the supervision of the University of Saint Mont, France;
– Training in Sacro-cranial therapy I and II, and Visceral Manipulation I, II and III, between 2002 and 2004, under the supervision of the Upledger Institute in the United States of America;
– Participation in courses of dissection of cadavers, between 2005 and 2008 with the aim of continuing training in the areas of anatomy, physiology and biomechanics.

Organisation:
Classes begin at 8:30 h and end at 18:30 pm with 1 hour and a half for lunch. Lunch is organized at Tea for Two, a very nice tea-house near CEY. The cost of the meal is € 8.50 which includes dish, natural juice and coffee or tea. You can sign up for lunch on the registration form. There is possibility of vegetarian or non vegetarian food (salads).
The value of the course is:
€ 120 until May 1 – 140 € from 1 to May 13
The number of places is limited, deadline for entries is 13th May. Retain the proof of payment.
You need comfortable clothes and material for annotation. It will be given a booklet and certificate of participation and Inês has programmed some practice !
